My Tested and Approved Green Smoothie

As many of you know, I am a juicer. I love to juice every morning and when I am traveling or away from home, I definitely miss my green juice. Green smoothie’s seem to be a bit easier to find while traveling (although you usually have to modify quite a bit!) so I decided to give them a shot at home and have my green juice as an afternoon snack. I’m actually pleasantly surprised with how much I have come to enjoy the morning smoothie and how satisfying it is. I usually eat something alongside my morning juice but just the smoothie seems to keep me going all morning long….

Parsnip Chips

To be quite honest, I had never ever cooked with a parsnip before but I knew I had The Conscious Cleanse coming up and I would certainly be missing my roasted sweet potatoes. So, I tested out the recipe I use for sweet potatoes but subbed parsnips instead, which is a cleanse friendly veggie. Let’s just say it was a quick romance, as I fell in love immediately. These chips are so simple, delicious and satisfying!…

Spider Deviled Eggs

I am hosting my book club this week and couldn’t be more excited that it is Halloween week because it means I get to bring out all my Halloween favorites. Straw-Boo-ries, Spooky Seven Layer Dip… I’m excited just thinking about it! But no Halloween holiday is complete without the addition of another themed item.

I’ve learned the versatility that deviled eggs have in theming food at Easter and during the Superbowl. So this week I plan to add these spider deviled eggs to my menu. Thanks to Sunset for the inspiration!…

Butternut Squash Casserole

I was so excited about this fall dish… then I had a vision of how to make it even more fall fabulous. After already returning home from buying all the ingredients, I marched myself back to the store to get some fresh cranberries. I had never actually cooked with fresh cranberries before so I had no idea if it was going to work or not, but it came out exactly as I had imagined. You never know until you try, right?…

Cilantro Lime Cauliflower “Rice” Collard Wraps

Along with other Dailey Method studios around the nation, I will be participating in a cleanse this November called The Conscious Cleanse. It is a 14-day program that eliminates all common allergens. I eat a pretty healthy diet but I always make exceptions and for this program I will particularly miss tomatoes (which are a nightshade)… and having a glass of vino, of course! Even though I believe I am very healthy, I think this is a great thing to do periodically. You are all welcome to join me in this cleanse if you want something to gear up for the holidays! You can find more info here….

Mexican Baked Spaghetti Squash

IMG_1865

I made this last week and was honestly SO excited about it! It is one of those dishes that really feels like it should be unhealthy when you are eating it …but then I realized the only thing in it, other than vegetables, is a small amount of greek yogurt. Seriously, can’t go wrong with that!

I also think this would be great for people (or children) who generally don’t like spaghetti squash because the way it is baked makes the texture a bit different. I cannot wait to make it again :)!

Soup Something Up!

I got my first feeling of Fall this weekend after there was a crazy few hour rainfall, followed by a cool but sunny afternoon. I was downtown San Francisco wedding dress shopping with one of my best friends and she looked at me and said “It feels like Fall!” I paused for a moment to take in the crisp air and that after rain smell. I always think the transition from summer to Fall is going to be a tough one until I am reminded of the amazing Fall foods there are! And in my opinion, nothing says Fall quite like a bowl of soup. So here are FLB’s favorite soups. stews and chilis!

Sweet Potato, Green Chile and Curry Soup – packed with so many health benefits and absolutely delicious.

Carrot Ginger Dressing

After discovering what a difference a fun fresh dressing can make, I have been on a quest to try mix things up from the standard vinaigrette. Thankfully, Eating Well, did a whole spread on dressings that gave me some good ideas. I love the hint of asian taste this dressing has and you automatically get an extra veggie on your salad since it includes carrots! Next time I make this, I want to try it with my roasted carrots to give it a little extra punch of flavor….
